The story of Iesta: Within a few years the name IESTA has rapidly become associated with very high-quality Chinese string-instruments throughout Europe. The owner of IESTA, himself a musician, obtained the Konzert diploma as violinist at the Karlsruhe Musikhochschule in Germany and has assembled a vast and varied musical experience in many of the diverse musical fields – as orchestral musician, chamber-music player in a renowned String Quartet, as soloist and teacher, and as baroque violinist. Liu Peng has a Professor title at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in China. Many years ago Liu Peng began to build up a keen interest in tone quality and how that can be produced from a luthier’s point of view. This now enables him to assess instruments with an insider’s eye that few possess. He sees himself as a bridge between European luthiers and the violin workshops of his own country. The suggestions, readily accepted, of Liu Peng and his European partners have thus resulted in noticeable improvements and developments in Chinese violin-making in a remarkably short time. It is IESTA’s wish to be directly involved in the continual improvement of Chinese lutherie - in each and every little detail; thus to bring about a perfection in tone and instrumental beauty. Because IESTA’s philosophy is that the pleasure in the making of beautiful instruments leads directly to the enjoyment of the player. That’s why IESTA is investing in the future: With IESTA Beijing there will be a new production centre in the Chinese capital. Here IESTA will make its own string instruments – of the same high quality. Under the guidance of European and Chinese experts, young people are already learning the skills of making violins.
