leaI believe that anyone can learn to play the violin – all it takes is personal drive, a love for music, and practice.  I welcome all ages, levels ranging from young beginner to adv. Intermediate.  I use a combination of the Suzuki method and other valuable exercise books, dependent on level, to round out each student's technical abilities.  I am easy-going, and can relate well to both adults and children; after every lesson, I explain to the parent what we learned, and we might even give a progress concert on the spot.  Although I have a relaxed attitude, I am a stickler for practicing, and both the student and the parent must know that.  This is your time to have my undivided attention, so let's make the most of it!   During lessons, we also discuss how to speak intelligently about dynamics & style, posture, bow hold, shifting, intonation, and memorization.

On a freelance basis, I substituted for the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra as a 1st violinist.   I also led 1st and 2nd violin sectionals for the Southwest Michigan Youth Orchestra, Prep Strings, and Junior Prep Strings Orchestras. For the past two and a half years, I worked as a part-time Violin Teacher for the Salvation Army in Southwest Michigan, with a very high rate of returning students each year.  During college at the University of Cincinnati, I played in the Conservatory of Music's Sight-Reading Orchestra and a musical theatre pit orchestra in the Cleveland Area.  While in high school, I played in the Regional (4yrs), State (3yrs), and National (1yr) High School Honors Orchestras.

I have been playing the violin since age 3, and although I did not specifically major in music during college, my experiences have taught me everything.  I understand the school systems and always encourage my students to play for the solo & ensemble contests, regional orchestras, and any other opportunities that may come their way.  If you would like to speak with me about taking violin lessons, you can reach me on my cell -
